Tooth Discoloration: A Few Facts

Did you know that Americans spend millions of every dollar every year on teeth whitening? Fortunately, as you probably know, there are a few things you can do to keep your teeth healthy and bright. Conversely, there are a few things that can stain your teeth—including a number of drinks.

Sadly, drinking too many sweet drinks can actually hurt your teeth and damage your enamel. Specifically, sodas can cause a number of serious issues because they’re high in sugar. This sugar may become acidic in your mouth and, over time, wear down your enamel.

Coffee can also stain your teeth, especially if you take it black. The tannins in tea can also stain your teeth, as can red wine. However, you can substitute red wines for white wines. Still, red wine may be an option to consider because it can also help you reduce inflammation in your gums, which can lead to gum disease.

Fortunately, you might be able to avoid a number of issues simply by staying away from drinks like these. However, if you’re not interested in staying away from these drinks, there may be a few things you should do. For instance, did you know that you can rinse your mouth out with water after you enjoy one of these drinks to protect your teeth? On a similar note, please remember to wait at least half an hour after you drink to brush your teeth. If you don’t, you could damage your teeth.
